Savannah is Georgia's fourth largest city and third largest metropolitan area.

Savannah was founded in 1733 by General James Edward Oglethorpe, who had sailed here from England.

Savannah is located at the mouth of the Savannah River and was an important port city for the industries of cotton and lumber for many years.

In 2003 Savannah and Chatham County voted to merge their city and county police departments.

In 2009, Savannah was North America's fourth largest port by container traffic.
